Programs

Dual Enrollment is an exciting program for eligible high school students to receive college credit while satisfying requirements for their high school diploma. Students are able to save time and gain a jumpstart on their college education and career. The goal of Dual Enrollment is to increase college access, completion, and prepare students to enter the workforce with the skills they need to succeed. Classes are conducted on the various campuses of Bishop State or the high schools.

There are several benefits for students who participate in Dual Enrollment at Bishop State.

  • Courses taught by credentialed community college instructors and qualified high school instructors.

  • Dual enrollment students are more likely to enroll in college right out of high school, earning a higher GPA in their first year of college!

  • Taking college-level classes will build confidence and encourage those students who may not have been thinking about college to enroll after high school.

  • College courses will remain on the student's regular college transcript.

  • Having access to all college resources.


Eligible high school students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade (students are considered in the 10th grade during the Fall of their Sophomore year)

  • 2.5 cumulative GPA on 4.0 scale

  • Approval from high school counselor


Admission Application Process

  • Complete an Online Application for Dual Enrollment.

  • Complete Statement of Eligibility Form with authentic signatures from the student, parent, and high school counselor.

  • Submit an official high school transcript reflecting GPA.

  • Provide a copy of unexpired identification government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license. (Note: In the absence of a government-issued photo ID, a certified copy of the student’s birth certificate along with the iNOW printout, signed and dated by the high school counselor or principal, can be submitted).

  • Students who are attempting to take Math or English must have the appropriate ACT or ACCUPLACER scores prior to being enrolled in the class (ACT score for Math-20 and English-18 (ACCUPLACER score for Math-267 and English-5).


Offered Courses

Bishop State offers Academic and Career Technical Courses. Meet with your high school counselor to select the best option for you. Course availability varies between high schools. Students are required to meet the appropriate prerequisites prior to enrollment in specific courses. Prerequisites include but are not limited to ACT score, placement testing guidelines, and/or sequential course requirements. If your high school does not offer dual enrollment courses, you can look into our Accelerated High School Program for college credit only.
