Mobile, Alabama – The Mobile Auto Dealers Association recently toured Bishop State Community College’s Carver Campus on July 12, 2016 and the Southwest Campus on July 19, 2016. The group discussed their workforce needs with the college. There were representatives from the major car dealerships in the Mobile area including service managers, technicians, and general managers. Members of the association conducted question and answer sessions with the students to explain exactly what a job entails as a service department worker. The starting wages of workers as they enter the automotive field were discussed. Students were encouraged to strengthen their basic work ethics along with learning the technical aspects of the industry.

Karl Henry, Dean of Career Technical Education, Austin Monk, Executive Director of Workforce Development, and instructors also met with the group. They discussed the type of training needed in the automotive classes to prepare a student to immediately enter the workforce. The college plans to continue working with the Mobile Auto Dealers Association to provide the skilled workforce needed in the Mobile area for the automotive industry.
