What is Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology?
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program prepares graduates for entry-level positions in the HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) industry. Students learn to construct, install, maintain, service, and repair both industrial and residential environmental control systems.
Students practice troubleshooting techniques, preventive maintenance, and servicing of system components and use laboratory equipment and trainers to sharpen skills. Live working systems provide opportunities for students to apply troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures. Training equipment in the laboratory includes gas heating equipment, heat pumps, ice machines, commercial refrigeration units, and air conditioning systems.
Students receive foundational instruction in refrigeration and electrical theory and develop hands-on skills in a lab environment. As they advance, students gain further exposure to real-world HVACR scenarios to better prepare for industry demands.
