Mobile, Alabama – Bishop State Community College captured three awards during the Public Relations Council of Alabama’s Medallion Awards program on April 17 in Huntsville. The college won the Award of Excellence in the External Video category and the Award of Merit for both Interactive Media and PSA Video categories.

Fifty-four submissions were made to the program this year. Members were awarded 19 Awards of Merit, 12 Awards of Excellence and seven Medallion Awards, along with two Judges’ Awards and one Best of Show.

PRCA is the state's longest operating and largest group of public relations practitioners. The statewide organization, with more than 500 members in six chapters, joins with members of sister organizations in Louisiana, Mississippi and northwest Florida to form the 900-plus-member Southern Public Relations Federation (SPRF).

The Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA) recognizes the best work of its members with Awards of Merit, Awards of Excellence, and the Medallion Awards, the highest noncompetitive award given. In addition, there is one “Best of Show” award presented, which is the competition’s highest honor and is selected only among the Medallion Award winners, and up to two “Judges’ Awards,” which honor work the judges deemed outstanding.

PRCA is committed to promoting professional and ethical practice, developing the potential of current and future practitioners, building a community of professionals, and advocating for the profession through effective member action and volunteer leadership.

Chapters are in six metropolitan areas: Auburn/Opelika, Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. Professional chapters also support the efforts of student chapters at colleges and universities in each area.
