Join the Movement. Find Hope. Be the Change.

Recovery organizations and the Treatment and Recovery Committee of the Alabama Opioid Overdose and Addiction Council, in partnership with community colleges are launching Recovery Is Here — a powerful statewide campaign mobilizing action, awareness, and support around substance use disorder (SUD) during National Recovery Month this September.

What is Recovery Month?

Since 1989, September has marked National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate recovery, uplift those on the journey, and raise awareness about effective treatment and support. Led by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), this national movement brings together public and private organizations to spotlight the stories, services, and science behind recovery.

Recovery Is Here — Coming to a Campus Near You

Throughout September, Alabama’s community colleges will host a series of high-impact events that empower students and communities to take action against addiction and toward recovery.

Each Recovery Is Here event includes:

  • Resource Fair: Connect with local and statewide organizations offering recovery services, education, and support.
  • Resourcing Recovery Presentation: Learn exactly how to access critical recovery resources for yourself or someone you know.
  • Live Recovery Stories: Hear real, local stories of recovery through the Respect Initiative, followed by a live Q&A.
  • Guest Remarks: Hear from leaders in education, recovery, and state government.

Some locations will also feature local recovery organization presentations and community networking opportunities.

“We’re showing up with real solutions, real support, and real hope. This isn’t just about awareness — it’s about action. Recovery is not just possible. Recovery is here,” said Lindsley.
