The Bishop State Community College lineworker program, in partnership with Alabama Power, is now accepting applications for its upcoming session. The 9-week program will begin on June 15, 2020. Applications are due on March 4, 2020.
The purpose of the center is to prepare students across Alabama communities to work as lineworkers. Students can learn the fundamentals of electricity as well as the math and science knowledge needed to work on power lines. As with any endeavor at Alabama Power, there will also be an emphasis on working safely.
The program is housed at a newly-renovated building on the college’s Southwest campus in Mobile. It includes three classrooms as well as a learning laboratory and an outdoor hands-on learning area where linemen can hone their skills.
This will be the second time the program has been offered at Bishop State this year. The first class started in January with 23 students. Potential students who would like to learn more about the
program should contact Bishop State’s Workforce Development department
at 251-405-7082 or workforce@bishop.edu.
