MOBILE, Ala., September 30, 2025 — Bishop State Community College’s first Women’s Flag Football Team received official recognition from the Mobile City Council for their trailblazing efforts in a sport that is rapidly growing across the nation.

During the council meeting, Councilman William Carroll read a proclamation celebrating the Wildcats’ accomplishments and the significance of women’s flag football. The proclamation highlighted:

  • The sport’s rapid expansion at both high school and collegiate levels.
  • Its upcoming inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, underscoring its growing international recognition.
  • The role of the Alabama Community College Conference as one of the first in the nation to offer women’s flag football at the community college level, creating new pathways for competition, scholarships, and leadership.
  • The importance of spotlighting trailblazing athletes and inspiring the next generation of women to pursue athletics at every level.

“Our women’s flag football team is making history every day,” said Head Coach Frank Goode. “These athletes are not only working hard on the field, they’re setting an example for future generations of women in sports. It’s an honor to see them recognized by the City of Mobile for their dedication, talent, and leadership.”

The proclamation, signed by Councilman Carroll and members of the Mobile City Council, marks an important milestone for Bishop State’s athletic program and the Wildcats’ ongoing commitment to leadership, excellence, and expanding opportunities for women in sports.
