Why: Women’s flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, with rapid expansion at the high school and collegiate levels. The sport’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles underscores its growing international recognition and importance.

The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) is among the first in the nation to offer the sport at the community college level, giving student-athletes new pathways for competition, scholarships, and leadership.

“Flag football has exploded across the state at the high-school level, and we want to capitalize on that. It's a discussion we've had for a few years, and I'm proud it's come to fruition,” said ACCC Commissioner Dean Myrick during the announcement of the sport in November 2024.

Local media coverage is vital to spotlight these trailblazing athletes, highlight the region’s role in advancing women’s sports, and inspire the next generation of young women to pursue athletics at every level.
