Three Colleges, One Campaign Bishop State Community College, Coastal Alabama Community College and University of South Alabama come together to launch a 15 to Finish Campaign
Bishop State Community College is proud to partner with Coastal Alabama Community College, the University of South Alabama, Mobile Area Education Foundation (MAEF) and Complete College America in launching the 15 to Finish campaign as a strategy to increase enrollment, retention and completion rates at each college. The launch will take place Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the USA Faculty Club.
The 15 to Finish campaign encourages students to take 15 credit hours per semester or 30 credits each year. The campaign also helps to debunk the myth that 12 credit hours are enough to ensure students an on-time graduation. Taking more credit hours reduces the cost of attendance and allows students to graduate on time.
In the 75,000 Degrees Initiative, Mobile has set a goal of doubling the number of Mobile County citizens with postsecondary degrees or credentials by 2030. To do this we must implement ways to provide students with credentials as well as transfer and completion methods. Launching the 15 to Finish campaign across the three campuses will serve as a way to implement strategies that support students in completing their post-secondary education.
“Bishop State is proud to lead the way in this partnership to launch 15 to Finish,” says Dr. Reginald Sykes, Bishop State Community College president. “Since first launching 15 to Finish in 2016, our institution has already seen a great increase in the number of students taking 15 credit hours each year and we look forward to seeing that number continue to grow through this collaboration.”
“Each additional semester needed to graduate increases the overall cost to students and their families and the likelihood that they may not ultimately reach their goal,” said Complete College America Vice President Dhanfu Elston. “CCA is proud to support MAEF and these three colleges in their effort to save students precious time and money, ultimately leading to the achievement of more degrees and credentials of value.”
Obtaining a post-secondary degree or credential is a leading contributor to improving the overall wellbeing of Mobile County citizens. The work of 75,000 Degrees and 15 to Finish is made possible by MAEF’s partnership with Complete College America and Lumina Foundation.
