ORIGINAL STORY:

Bishop State Community College is excited to announce the expansion of its athletics department with the return of its cheerleading program and the introduction of women’s flag football, both of which will begin in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The cheerleading program, which was last held during the 2017-2018 season, will make its official return under the leadership of Tabitha Dallas, a former cheerleader at Bishop State Community College and Alabama State University. The co-ed team will offer athletic scholarships to students, and Dallas brings both a personal connection to Bishop State and extensive experience as a next-level cheerleader and coach.

“We are excited to be bringing cheerleading back at this time,” said Bishop State Athletic Director Trent Eager. “With the landscape of our college and athletic department growing, it is the perfect time to restart this program. I am excited to have a former Bishop State cheerleader like Tabitha Dallas lead the way. We look forward to the excitement and school spirit that this program will bring!”

Additionally, Bishop State will introduce women's flag football, one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC). The sport will officially launch in the fall of 2025.

“Being part of the movement to bring women’s flag football to the NJCAA is a major milestone for Bishop State and for women's sports as a whole,” said Eager. “This speaks volumes about the growth, vision, and opportunities at Bishop State. We’ve been working on this for months, and I’m excited to see it come to life.”

Bishop State has named Frank Goode as the Head Flag Football Coach and is actively recruiting athletes, with 15 athletic scholarships available for the new program.

To celebrate these exciting announcements, Bishop State will soon host a meet-and-greet with both coaches. Stay tuned for more details.
