Bishop State, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Alabama Dept. of Transportation are collaborating to offer a Carpentry on-the-job training program. The 13-week pilot program will provide students hands-on work experience with local construction companies and on-campus classroom learning.

Potential students must be:

  • 18 years old or older
  • Be willing to take and pass a drug test
  • Must have taken the ACT test with a score of 18 higher within the last three years OR taken the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) and tested at a 5th-grade level or higher

If neither of these requirements has been met by the student, after he or she completes an application, potential students will have an opportunity to take the TABE test at Bishop State before being fully accepted into the program.

Class Offerings

The Carpentry On the Job Training program is set to begin in January 2022 and scholarships are available to everyone who applies. Deadline to apply is December 17, 2021
