Nurses needed! Get your degree at Bishop State!

Nursing Students chatting with patient

Bishop State Community College’s Division of Nursing is hosting information sessions about its nursing program for any student who is interested in applying for the program.

The U.S. is projected to experience a shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) that is expected to intensify as Baby Boomers age and the need for health care grows. Bishop State is working to fulfill the growing need for nurses by training and educating the next generation of nurses through our nursing program.

The information sessions, which will last about an hour, will provide potential students an opportunity to learn about nursing admissions criteria, points for selection, expenses, books, uniforms, and required documents needed to be admitted into the program.  Students are also advised to bring copies of their unofficial transcripts as well as any questions they would like answered.

There are a total of eight opportunities for students to attend a scheduled information session, however, students only have to attend one. The dates are listed in the chart below. All sessions will take place on the Bishop State Community College Baker-Gaines Central campus located at 1365 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Ave.; Mobile, AL 36603.

There is no better time to enter the healthcare profession. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment Projections 2016-2026, Registered Nursing (RN) is listed among the top occupations in terms of job growth through 2026. The RN workforce is expected to grow from 2.9 million in 2016 to 3.4 million in 2026, an increase of 438,100 or 15%. The Bureau also projects the need for an additional 203,700 new RNs each year through 2026 to fill newly created positions and to replace retiring nurses.

For more information, be sure to visit Bishop State’s Division of Nursing page on the website. If you have questions about the nursing information sessions, please contact the Nursing Division Chair, Dr. Jacqueline Smith, at or (251) 405-4497.
