What is a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)?
A "QEP" is a focused course of action designed to improve student learning.
Bishop State is currently accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools / Commission on Colleges (SACS/COC). In order to maintain accreditation, each college undergoes a peer-review every ten years. Bishop State is now preparing for reaccreditation in 2015. As a significant part of the process, each college must submit a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Bishop State's QEP is the Strong Start plan.
Our faculty, staff, and students worked together to design the Bishop State’s Strong Start plan. The focus of this plan is a mandatory one-credit hour student success course that will be taken by all first-time students beginning in 2015.
Bishop State is currently developing the Strong Start plan, which will be sent to SACS this summer. Review of the plan will take place in October, 2014. This review includes an on-site visit by a committee of professional peers who will examine data and conduct interviews to evaluate the soundness of the QEP. This visiting committee will present their findings to SACS / COC which makes the final decision regarding renewal of accreditation.
This section of the website provides continuing information on QEP and invites feedback from our campus community. To learn more about the Strong Start plan and the process of development, please check back for frequent updates.
