After completing courses in the discipline of sociology, all students should be able to do the following:
- All students should be able to differentiate between key concepts in sociology.
- All students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of sociological principles which explain successful and unsuccessful outcomes in human relations
- All students should be able to demonstrate effective written communication within the language of the discipline.
- All students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the effects of major social institutions-family, economy, government, education, and religion-on social behavior.
- All students should be able to communicate knowledge of the effects of social change on social institutions and social behavior.
- Apply knowledge of history to current issue.
- All students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of scientific research.

SOC 200 INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY: 3 credits
This course is an introduction to vocabulary, concepts, and theory of sociological perspectives of human behavior.
SOC 208 INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINOLOGY: 3 credits
Prerequisite: SOC 200
This course delves into the nature and extent of crime in the United States, as well as criminal delinquent behavior and theories of causation. The study includes criminal personalities, principles of prevention, control and treatment.
SOC 209 JUVENILE DELINQUENCY: 3 credits
Prerequisite: SOC 200
This course examines the causes of delinquency. It also reviews program prevention and control of juvenile delinquency as well as the role of the courts.
SOC 210 SOCIAL PROBLEMS: 3 credits
Prerequisite: SOC 200
This course examines the social and cultural aspects, influences, incidences, and characteristics of current social problems in light of sociological theory and research.
SOC 247 MARRIAGE & THE FAMILY: 3 credits
Prerequisite: SOC 200
This course is a study of family structures and families in a modern society. It covers preparation for marriage, as well as sociological, psychological, biological, and financial factors relevant to success in marriage and family life.
