King, the most eloquent black leader of the 20th century, spearheaded the campaign in 1957 to end segregation. He made his famous "I Have A Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963 and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He would have turned 80 years old Jan. 15, 2009, had he not been struck down by an assassin's bullet on April 4, 1968.
