Technical Programs Receive Endorsements from Alliance

February 12, 2014

Bishop State Community College President James Lowe Jr. announced today the endorsements of the Electrical Technology and Welding Technology programs by the Central Gulf Industrial Alliance (CGIA). The mission of CGIA is to improve industry performance by developing, sharing, and promoting best practices in the areas of workforce development, work safety, quality, and productivity.

Four community colleges in Southwest Alabama participated in the endorsement process – Bishop State, Faulkner State, Jefferson Davis, and Reid State. The rigorous endorsement process included an on-site visit; tour of the college’s classrooms and laboratory facilities; interviews with the instructors and staff; and a review of the curriculums and business and industry engagement. The  review team included CGIA members who are major industrial employers such as Austal USA, BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, and Ingalls Shipbuilding.

The endorsement process at Bishop State was led by Dr. Kathy Thompson, Dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development, which included Roderick McSwain, Southwest Campus Coordinator/Technical Faculty Director; Marshall Runderson, Chairman of the Division of Engineering and Construction; Richard Everett, Chairman of the Division of Commercial & Industrial Technology; Dr. Betty Leslie, Director of the Carver Campus; Alicia Simon, Instructor of Electrical Technology; Sam Walters, xxxxxxxxxxxxx; and Annette Brown, Lead Instructor of Welding Technology.
